Wedding Week Fun

We want to hang out with you. Here's what we are up to the week before the wedding.

Halena and Mike Wedding week FUN:

Monday, June 21st: We can’t miss the BEST THEATER IN TOWN: Our own Barrel of Monkeys presents: That’s Weird, Grandma. The show runs from 8pm-9pm, appropriate for all ages. For tickets and directions click here: Monkey Show! Or just show up at the door.

After the show we’ll grab a drink at The Edgewater Lounge (walking distance from the theater) you can meet us there around 9pm if you can’t make the show. 5600 North Ashland (Ashland and Bryn Mawr).

Tuesday, June 22nd: TBD-we will update this once we have a plan. Have an idea, want to hang out? Let us know!

Wednesday, June 23rd: TBD-we will update this once we have a plan. Have an idea, want to hang out? Let us know!

Thursday, June 24th: Join us for beer, sangria and the best cheeseburgers in Chicago at Moody’s Pub (weather permitting-it is an outside place-kid friendly). Picnic tables and good times. 7pm-???? Swing in anytime-its casual.

Friday, June 25th: Halena and Mike will be joining the Kays family party that night for a little reunion. If you’re not part of the Kays clan might we recommend going to see the play: No Exit, produced by Halena’s other theater company, The Hypocrites? It’s gotten great reviews and you’ll be supporting small local theater in the process. Win, win. 8pm at the Athenaeum Theater, 2936 North Southport.

Saturday, June 26th: We have to have rehearsal for the big day and then some dinner. There might be an “after-party” if we’re not too sleepy. Call or text one of us if you’d like to find out where we end up- probably around 9pm or 10pm.

Sunday, June 27th: married.

Directions to Promontory Point

Directions: Promontory Point’s official address is: 5491 South Lake Shore Drive.

However, you can not drive straight up to the building, you have to park on the other side of Lake Shore Drive and then walk through a magical tunnel underneath the drive and cross a lovely park district path to get to the wedding. Think of it as an adventure.

You are really trying to find the parking lot (or street parking) at the intersection of East 55th and S. South Shore Drive. The magical tunnel is just north of 55th.

Just type into Google Maps: East 55th and S. South Shore Drive, Chicago, IL. And follow the magical computer directions. Or click on this link: map to parking lot

Basically: if you are driving South on Lake Shore Drive you can exit at 53rd Street and then continue heading South on S. South Shore Drive, keep following the twists of this road for a few blocks and you will run into the parking lot for Promontory point.

We found looking at this neat picture map helpful in figuring out where you are going, if you scroll East you can see the building right at the tip of the point. Neat Picture Map

Wedding Bus-Sign up NOW!

THERE'S STILL SOME ROOM ON THE WEDDING BUS IF YOU WANT TO SIGN UP!
Get on board party people.
Because there is not an easy way to get to Promontory Point by public transportation, we are offering a bus to take you there.

The bus will pick you up and drop you off at the Lawrence Red Line Stop
This is north of the Gay Pride Parade and is a neighborhood that has both street and pay lots if you'd like to keep your car there. For all of you city dwellers we hope it will help you just hop on the Redline. No drinking and driving people.
The bus will leave the stop at 1:15pm SHARP so plan on being there by 1pm (to get to the wedding by 2ish) and will leave at the end of the party by 8pm.
Sign-up by emailing us or posting a comment to this post.

Bring a Camera

If you have a digital camera bring it! You might get the best shot of the day and it will sit on our mantle forever. Thanks!

We are REGISTERED!

Hi friends.
Most of all we are dreaming of taking a (slightly delayed) honeymoon to Sicily. We've found a tiny town on the coast called Spadefora and imagine we will run into a bunch of people who look just like Mike. Also, driving scooters and eating amazing food will be part of the agenda. Due to Halena's grad school schedule we plan to take off just after graduation next May. To buy us some gelato or pitch in on the plane tickets you can go here:

http://www.honeyfund.com/wedding/spatafora

We'll send you a picture of us enjoying whatever you helped us do. Fun times.

We also went to Target with one of those little guns and ran around shooting at some random stuff. We are more into travel than stuff, but, we can use stuff too. Especially that big TV...anyone...anyone...:) UPDATE-seriously, I think my friend Amanda has an inside hook-up on TV's and is getting us one. Amazing! I knew we were friends with her for some reason.

Just go to the Target website and search under registries for one of our names.

Finally, we do not take for granted our ability to be legally married to one another and think it is completely insane that the gays can't get married. NOT OK. Please consider donating, in honor of our union, to help rectify this serious human rights issue:
